CAIRNGORM CIRCULAR WALK

8.5 MILES
This walk takes a route that follows the northern edge of the Cairngorm Plateau. Much of the walk is undertaken at a level of 4000ft with superb views over Strathspey.
The best place to start this walk is at the Sugarbowl car park about a mile beyond Glenmore on the Ski Road from Aviemore to Cairngorm at the edge of Glenmore Forest.
From here walk SE up the Sron an Aonaich ridge to the summit of Cairngorm. If you keep your eyes shut til you reach the summit you might not notice what a mess Coire Cas has become on your right with the work on the new railway.
From the summit head west along the lip of Coire Cas ans Coire an t'Sneachda and up to the summit of Cairn Lochan (1215m). Head NW at this point towards Lurcher's Crag (1053m). From here you have a great view through the Lairig Ghru, the great Cleft slicing through the middle of the Cairngorms.
Continuing NW from the summit of Lurcher's skirt down the edge of the crag and meet a path at the bottom. Take the right fork which leads you through the eerie Chalamain Gap and follow the path across the stream and back to the car park.
