Goretex Re-proofing on the Cheap
Trail mag this month has an article about reproofing agents for your goretex, sympatex etc. As far as I knew they cost a lot of money and you only got 3 or 4 washes out of a bottle. As tight as I am this means that I wash my goretex jacket around once a year and make do with a waterlogged shell as soon as it wears off. I've had the bottle of tech wash in the cupboard for around 4 years now.
Anyway, the shock news in Trail was that Comfort Pure Concentrate fabric conditioner works just as well as any of the reproofing agents and costs around a quid per bottle. Turns out Comfort Pure Concentrate is a silicon based agent and works just like any of the other goretex reproofers.
I'm off to stuff all my kit in the machine now to get ready for some serious water beading this bank holiday weekend.
As far as I know Trail is not online, so you'll have to find a real-life paper copy to read the full article.

Comments:

Hi,

there's nothing on how it worked with your waterproofs for quite a long time. Hopefully you did not need to dump them all afterwards and now don't want to speak about it again?:)
