Cowal Walking and Arts Festival - Cowalfest
Running over roughly the same period in october as the Crieff Drovers Tryst, Cowal Walking and Arts festival is happening on the west coast soon.

http://www.cowalwalking.org/

It combines loads of walks, cycling and arts events and is well worth a look, particularly if you want to combine a bit of walking at the Crieff festival and then some on the west coast.

Great Outdoors Food - Beef Jerky
They've been chewing it in America since the cowboys, and probably before, but Beef Jerky is only now making it's way into the UK. The reason I'm mentioning it here is that it is superb outdoors food. Throw it in your sack and chew on it whenever you feel like it for some concentrated calories. It never seems to go off. It won't split and spill gooey liquids all over your bag. It wont squish into non recognisable shapes. Now I know I can get beef jerky by the booze section in Somerfield, but online the Wild West Beef Jerky store seems to be the place to get it in substantial quantities. And if you're a veggie? er... carrot anyone?

Scottish hillwalking blog
Came across a site when I was browsing around today called Stravaiging around Scotland. It's extremely well written and stuffed with loads of great walks and adventures round Scotland. The writer's latest adventure on the West Highland Way ended before it should have. I feel bad for him, but hey the walk will be there next year.

Bob Scott's Bothy in Scottish Mountaineer Magazine
Anguish was heard echoing through the glens a few years ago when it became apparent that Bob Scott's bothy near Derry Lodge in the Cairngorms had been razed to the ground. Bob Scott's was a favourite bothy of mine and has been the base for many an adventure.

There apparently was nothing suspicious about the fire and it was just an accident in which the people involved were lucky not to have been hurt.

So last week Scottish Mountaineer Magazine came through the door (it's the members mag for the MC of S) and there was a large feature on the rebuilding of Bob Scott's which has been facilitated by the hard work of the Friends of Bob Scott's association. It's a good read and the mag is well worth getting your hands on. Good luck to everyone rebuilding the bothy.
